About The walTons

Rhydau Duon has been our family home since 1973. When Hugh and Judy came to view it, it was love at first sight! The house leaked like a sieve, there was no phone, no indoor toilet (just a ty bach or “little house’ round the back) and what is now the kitchen was filled to the rafters with sheepskins.  

Over the years Rhydau Duon was run as an outdoor centre offering climbing, walking and canoeing trips for children from all over the UK.  We still have customers who return having originally stayed with us when they were teenagers. Hugh and Nick both have backgrounds in mountaineering, climbing and hill walking. Both have served on the Llanberis Mountain Rescue since the 1970’s  and are always happy to offer advice for activities in the hills. 

Judy raised four children here while Hugh was usually somewhere up a mountain or in the middle of a lake. She was chief cook and bottle washer for the outdoor centre and is also responsible for the mature mountain garden.  The garden which you are welcome to explore, blends seamlessly into the rugged landscape.
